Amos Cai helms the dispute resolution team at Yuen Law. Litigious proceedings are often baffling to a layman. We guide our clients in complex litigation and dispute resolution proceedings including commercial and contractual matters, shareholders disputes, employment disputes, construction claims, debt recovery, and defamation. Amos relishes the variety of case types in this practice area, and is motivated to seek the most pragmatic modes of resolution for his clients.

In 2025, Amos was newly recognised as a Future Star for Commercial and Transactional matters in Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific, while the practice group was also ranked for the second consecutive year with improved rankings. Some of the notable cases that Amos has handled include: –
- Represented a plaintiff in the High Court Trial for breach of a trust deed, advising on issues to assessing the amount of equitable compensation and valuing economic loss in connection with the breach.
- Represented a CTO of a company on a Derivative Action Claims under S216A of the Companies Act against a director of the company for breach of fiduciary duties, misuse of confidential information, and failing to exercise reasonable care.
- Acted for two shareholders of a company in the defending a minority oppression claim under S216 of the Companies Act.
- Assisted in a SIAC Arbitration involving a construction dispute worth in excess of S$12 million.
- Assisted in a High Court Suit where client was faced with a million-dollar civil claim, and defended client substantially, including succeeding on a point of law involving amendment of pleadings after trial.
- Obtained summary judgment for S$1.2 million in a civil claim and assisted in defending the appeal to the summary judgment.
- Assisted in a dispute where we successfully obtained leave to initiate a Shareholders Derivative Action on behalf of the Company.
- Assisted in a Court of Appeal case regarding a striking out of third-party proceedings.
- Assisted in a Court of Appeal case regarding a shareholders’ dispute.
- Assisted in a High Court suit regarding breach of employees’ duties.
- Acted previously for both employers and employees in employment disputes in MOM Labour Court/High Court.
Amos is also a volunteer lawyer with the Singapore Law Society’s Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS), a non-profit initiative by the Law Society of Singapore to provide assistance to the underprivileged in criminal cases, as well as a Singapore NGO that works with migrant workers.

SHAREHOLDERS DISPUTES | MINORITY OPPRESSION AND DERIVATIVE ACTIONS
We can assist minority shareholders who feel that they have been oppressed or unfairly treated by the majority shareholders or the company. This can include seeking a court order to rectify the situation or compensation for any losses suffered. We can assist shareholders in bringing a derivative action on behalf of the company if they believe that the directors have acted in an unlawful or oppressive way. This can include seeking an injunction to prevent the directors from continuing the action, or compensation for any losses suffered by the company.
ARBITRATION
Our Arbitration Practice specialises in domestic arbitration. We are equipped to guide clients through every step of the dispute process, from contract dispute resolution clause drafting to pre-dispute strategy, negotiations, mediation, tribunal selection, arbitral proceedings, interim court applications, and arbitration award enforcement. MEDIATION
Mediation in Singapore is a popular choice for resolving disputes, as it provides a less confrontational approach. Parties attend a meeting with a neutral mediator to find a mutually agreeable solution. Each party shares their perspective and the mediator guides discussion. We provide legal advice throughout the mediation process. If the parties are able to reach an agreement, we will draft a legally binding agreement. The settlement agreement can be used in court if one party breaches the agreement.
Building and Construction Claims
We provide legal representation to clients involved in construction projects, helping them resolve disputes and protect their interests against developers, home owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, or other parties involved in the projection. This includes disputes relating to payment, delivery, performance, or liquidated damages. We also help clients navigate issues on liability and insurance issues related to construction projects, including workers’ compensation for work injuries.
SECURITY OF PAYMENT (SOP) ACT
The Security of Payment Act provides relatively affordable and fast-track dispute resolution mechanism for subcontractors to claim payment for construction work or the supply of related goods and services. We help clients understand their rights and obligations under SOP Act, and guide them through the process of making and responding to payment claims, preparing and submitting or defending an adjudication application at the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), and enforcing the adjudicator’s decision.
Criminal Defence
We advise on white collar crimes in Singapore, including areas of law related to fraud, criminal breach of trust, corruption, money laundering, cybercrime, and insider trading. Our primary focus is to defend individuals facing criminal charges. We explain the charges faced, outline legal options, and discuss the potential consequences of each option.
