Last updated on May 7, 2011

One of the most intriguing mysteries of the General Elections 2011 must be the contents of section 49, sub section 7E, paragraph A of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which concerns itself with the counting of votes.

Pursuant to section 49, sub section 7E, paragraph A of the Parliamentary Elections Act:

Given that the number of overseas voters in a constituency is x,

the number of votes garnered by the PAP is y, and

the number of votes garnered by the opposition is z

If x is less than the difference between y and z, then the Returning Officer can do away with waiting for the results of the overseas voters and declare the winner.

Thanks to section 49, sub section 7E, paragraph A of the Parliamentary Elections Act, as well as The Most Important Man of the General Elections 2011, we know that Lina Chiam lost Potong Pasir, and everyone can finally go to bed now.
