About

Jowen first joined the firm as an intern in 2016. He completed his traineeship with the firm’s Managing Director, June Lim, in 2020. After getting called to the Bar, he honed his practice at a Legal 500 disputes firm, specialising in commercial litigation, cryptocurrency, shipping, restructuring and insolvency matters.

Passionate about blockchain technology, Jowen has represented a variety of cryptocurrency projects and investors in numerous disputes and crypto-related matters.

Fluent in Thai, Jowen helms the firm’s Thai Desk and divides his time between both jurisdictions.

As the President and Advisor of the Asian Law Students’ Association from 2018 to 2020, Jowen has cultivated an extensive network of Thai lawyers to foster cross-border collaborations. He is also a member of the Singapore-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

Notable Matters

  • Advised liquidators of Asia’s former top oil trading company with the adjudication of creditors’ proofs of debt exceeding more than SGD 600 million.
  • Represented the Singapore subsidiary of the world’s largest shipping conglomerate to defend against misdelivery claims by two Asian banks, with a claim sum of collectively more than SGD 47 million.
  • Represented a Swiss bank in a USD 19 million civil claim against a SGX-listed commodities trading company in a dispute involving fraudulent circular gas oil trading and novel legal issues relating to trade financing.
  • Represented a Thai-based creditor in the winding up of an SGX-listed company over debts exceeding SGD 2 million.
  • Represented an SGX-listed Japanese group to resist a statutory demand over SGD 5 million, against its Singapore subsidiary in the digital learning technology industry.
  • Represented a HNW client in claims by and against an international forex trading brokerage.
  • Represented a Singapore-based cryptocurrency investor company in a cross-border investment dispute against a foreign company operating data mining centers.
  • Represented an Indian commodities trading company in an international SIAC Arbitration, against a state-owned coal producer over breaches of contract with claim sum of over USD 7 million.
  • Represented a leading Chinese shipping group in an international SCMA Arbitration, for claims involving misdelivery of gas oil cargo.
