I am Managing Partner of Seiter IP Consultants LLP, an IP boutique firm, providing trademark and other Intellectual Property services in Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia. Intellectual Property (IP) has always been a passion of mine and I have been practising IP law for years, particularly trademark advice and registration. IP is an area of law that I find it very interesting because it deals with innovation and creativity. I am always available to discuss IP issues and concerns with my clients, collaborating with them to develop customised out-of-the-box solutions where required. I also help devise customised IP Strategies for my small businesses who cannot afford to have their very own IP lawyer within the company.
With over 15 years of experience in the IP field, I have advised international and Singapore clients, especially SMEs and start-ups, on a wide range of issues related to trademarks, designs, copyright and domain names in industries such as apparel and accessories, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, toys, sporting goods, wines and spirits, agricultural and dairy products, foods and beverages, electronic and computers, industrial equipment and machinery and personal care, health care, medical devices and services.
My aim is to help as many clients achieve their business goals by leveraging on their intellectual property rights. Over the years, I have worked closely with small companies, start-ups, entrepreneurs and large MNCs, handling close to 1000 matters globally and have a very good network of local agents with whom I have a mutually beneficial fee arrangement so that we do not double charge our clients.
Being in a smaller sized firm, I understand the budgetary constraints that some businesses may have and for this reason, my firm offers trademark and IP services at fixed fees. I also offer free consultation and preliminary advice on IP matters on a courtesy basis. Where my firm differs is that we get to know each of our clients on a deeper level by investing time in learning more about the company, its aspirations, what they want to get out of their IP, and then discuss an appropriate strategy to achieve those goals. Transparency, honesty and integrity are the pillars of our work ethic. As I have structured our business differently, I hope that you will give us the opportunity to show you how we work.
Seiter IP Consultants LLP is supported by our affiliate law firm Dharsan Seiter Law Corporation whose core practice area is also IP law, focused on Singapore matters such as Patent prosecution, Trademark prosecution, Design prosecution, oppositions, cancellation actions, invalidation actions, cease-and-desist letters, trademark litigation, patent litigation, industrial design litigation and copyright litigation before the Singapore Courts. I invite you to visit my firms’ websites at www.ipconsultants.asia and www.dharsanseiter.sg for more information.
Trade Mark Registration
A registered trademark gives you the exclusive right to your brand and the power to stop potential copycats from using your trademark without consent. A registered trademark deters the unauthorized of your trademark. Moreover, a trademark/brand, being an invaluable asset, can generate income for a business through licensing arrangements, distributorships or franchising deals. Trademark protection and rights are territorial in nature so taking prompt action in countries where your business is already selling or plans to sell your products or services is crucial.
How can we help you? Our scope of trademark services include:
- Developing a cost-effective trademark strategy.
- Trademark portfolio management in Southeast Asia.
- Trademark search to assess any potential risks prior to filing your trademark.
- Advising on NICE classification prior to filing your trademark.
- Trademark registration in different Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
- Trademark renewal of a registration.
- Trademark opposition of published, confusingly similar marks.
- Trademark invalidation and revocation actions of registered trademarks.
- Drafting/negotiating co-existence agreements.
- Trademark watch/monitoring services of potentially similar trademarks.
- Trademark infringement litigation and passing off actions against unauthorized use.
- Drafting/responding to cease and desist letters.
- Updating a change in trademark ownership or name.
- Domain name registration and disputes such as cybersquatting and UDRP proceedings.
Patents are very commercially valuable to a business and a registered patent can generate revenue for a business in many ways, for example raising money from investors for the business, through licensing deals with third parties or outright sale of the patent for a decent price. Like trademarks, patent rights are territorial in nature, so to get ahead of competitors and attract customers through your innovation, it is important to take immediate steps to get your patent registered.
How can we help you? Our scope of services include:
- Patent portfolio management in Southeast Asia.
- Prior art search before filing your patent.
- Assessing and advising on the novelty of inventions.

- Drafting patent specifications/claims.
- Renewals of patents.

Intellectual Property Advice
Every business is unique and has its own set of values, mission and vision. At Seiter IP Consultants, we believe in building strong bonds and connections with our clients by listening to them, analyzing their business needs, gaining a clear understanding of their short term and long-term goals to develop a tailored IP Strategy. Our aim is to work with our clients as their business partner, not as service providers.
Being a small firm, we understand the issues surrounding small businesses for example consumer marketing, generating revenue and managing costs. Unlike bigger companies who have in-house attorneys, most small businesses do not. They need to outsource most of the legal work. This is where we would like to help and offer our expertise as the in-house counsel on the outside. That is why we spend as much time as needed in advising, guiding and educating our clients, both domestic and international, on what IP is all about, why it is important, how best to protect the IP identified within an organisation, especially small businesses, how IP can generate revenue for a business, and when necessary, jointly develop a cost-effective IP strategy.
When developing an IP Strategy, we usually adopt the “Who, What, Where, When, How and Why” approach. If you are interested to you know more, we would be happy to share our approach with you. If you are looking to one firm to manage your IP in the Southeast Asian region, look no further. Seiter IP Consultants can do just that, and much more!
