I’m a Dutch citizen and approached him for legal assistance in the following case:
A Singaporean restaurant clearly overcharged me during a business visit in the spring of 2016. Despite of multiple attempts to find an acceptable solution for this case, the restaurant simply persisted in not responding to me at all. Then, I was advised to request the Singaporean Small Claims Tribunal (SCT) for a review. The SCT treated the case seriously and offered me all the help I needed with filling in the legal documents required for the procedure. The SCT awarded my claim in an official verdict in January 2017: the restaurant was ordered to fairly compensate me.
However, the restaurant still failed to respond by any means, ignoring the SCT verdict they received.
Then, in April 2017, I approached Mr. Mohamed Baiross for assistance in this debt recovery case. He offered me a more than reasonable deal for his necessary legal assistance. Mr. Baiross studied the documents, immediately took action and successfully contacted the management of the restaurant. But despite of their promise to pay the compensation ordered in the verdict, they failed to keep their promise. Again, Mr. Baiross quickly took action. He expressed his determination in this case (‘We are very disappointed’) and put the necessary legal pressure on the restaurant. With success. The restaurant realized they couldn’t ignore the legal SCT verdict and finally decided to pay the ordered compensation.

I have been wanting to write this review for the last 5 months. but never got down to penning it. Writing a review can get a bit tricky, because you are always caught up between the dynamics of the service rendered, the firm and the person who was at the helm of it. I too was caught up in this predicament as to which aspect to touch base first, the firm, or the people.

But before I write this review, I would like to quote the words of John Davies who was a renowned American diplomat and lawyer “ True we build no bridges, we raise no towers, we construct no engines, we paint no pictures – unless as amateurs for our own principal amusements. There is little of all that we do, which the eye of a man can see. But we smooth out difficulties, we relieve stress, we correct mistakes: we take up other man’s burdens, and by our efforts we make possible the peaceful life of men in a peaceful state.”

The above quote is what I would like to draw analogy to highlight my experience, I approached IRB Law and was attended to by the founding partner Mr. Mohammed Baiross. I was at the crossroads of my life, with a failing business which was caused by the business climatic changes, heighten debts, failing marriage, and with ailing father who had just suffered a stroke.

My experience with the IRB Law was positive right from the first moment, I stepped into their office. When I consulted with Mr,Baiross, he was attentive, thorough, and helpful throughout a very difficult time of my life. His entire team who attended to my matters right from his paralegal team, to his support staff and associates, was with me at every step of the way with insight and compassion, always responding quickly and effectively whenever any questions or issues were raised by me.

They worked around the Bankruptcy filing, my property sale which was one of the stumbling blocks, and lastly my divorce which also panned out very smoothly. I never did expect to have a mutual consent divorce filing done, wherein my ex would agree to settle matters and work with IRB law to see through the process. I was informed at every aspect of my cases, and Mr. Baiross was there personally at all times to walk me through everything that came up. One thing I particularly like about IRB, they do not try to milk you out with charges. I remember meeting Baiross the first time, he never did look at his watch once and sat through all my questions patiently. We are all aware, law firms are quite strict about time clocked, and I said to myself then, he trying to get in a client, so first meeting is a generous one. But Mr.Baiross was generous in all his meeting with me, not just personal meetings, but always very quick to respond through his team and has made himself available during times most would consider after hours.

Upon settlement of all my matters, I felt that it was a truly a smooth and comfortable process…I could not have asked for more! Long story, short. I”m an expat, so obviously I am clueless about tenancy rights in Singapore. I knew, without a shadow of doubt, that my landlord was violating my Tenancy Agreement. I just had no way to prove this; therefore, I needed representation from a lawyer urgently. My issue was time sensitive and I had less than 30 days to take legal action. I’d called a plethora of law firms and many of them either said: that my issue wasn’t worth the fees that I would incur, not enough time, outrageously expensive, or didn’t respond in a timely manner. Of all the law firms that I’d called on a lone Friday, only A.W. Law LLC assured me that my dispute was valid, I had enough time, and my dispute was overwhelmingly in my favor. Narendra, Pari, and the team worked tirelessly and went above and beyond to meet my needs during the entire process. For example, they maintained contact with me after office hours, staying very late, working on the weekends, and so forth.

All in all, my dispute (complaint) ended in my favor as a tenant, which is extremely rare because in cases involving landlord-tenant disputes, the landlord almost always wins.

On my 1st ever consultation with Mr Abdul Wahab, I feel I can vibe with him as he understands my family dynamics, was non-judgemental (compared to other law firms I visited) n walked me through the gameplan. I can also feel his sincerity.

I first engaged A W Law for my PPO case where Mr Wahab managed to obtain what i needed from the defendants. After which I had to fight a civil case where my ex wife failed to return me the monies which i took a loan to pay for her criminal offence. My annulment lawyer told me that i did not stand a chance in winning the case as the defendant would claim its a gift instead of a loan.

When i approached Mr Wahab regarding the case, he assured me that I was able to win the case provided i managed to obtain evidence to show it was a loan instead of a gift. I filed the case and got the judgement in my favour within a year.

Mr Wahab is a lawyer who puts in the effort to study and analyze every case. During any mediation session, he will give his advice on whether to take up the proposl from the defendant and he will also give a counter proposal which is in favour of the plaintiff. He is always responsible in making sure the court documents are submitted timely. His fees are relatively lower than other lawyers and reasonable as well. Furthermore, he does not give any empty promises or false hope in winning the case. But he will definately do his best in handling any cases. Prior to my case going up for trial, he scheduled a meeting to discuss with me the questions to be asked to the defendant amd this was done after office hours. I was really impressed to see a lawyer who works beyond office hours for his client. During the trial, he is always calm and composed in cross examining the defendant. During his closing submission, he took the effort to study other cases and link it up to my case so that the chances of winning were high. I strongly will encourage anyone with PPO or civil case to approach Mr Wahab.

Mr Hasif was assistant lawyer who worked for my case together with Mr Wahab. He is a young lawyer who has so much of fire to work for his client. He worked for my case halfway through my case. I was impressed to see Mr Hasif knowing the details when i first met him. This actually proved that he read up on my case before meeting me. The first thing he asked me to do was to obtain bank statements which was eventaully crucial for my case. And he also kept reminding me to do so as he realised the importance of the case. Mr Hasif works really well with Mr Wahab. They make a good pair for any case. Mr Hasif is the pillar for Mr Wahab. He is a lawyer who make sures his boss doesnt fail. Whenever, Mr Wahab is unsure about anything  Mr Hasif will be there to support him. During any free time, Mr Hasif will also engage his client to find out more about them. I personally loved engaging with Mr Hasif. He has a good character and is very humble. However, during the trial, he is a different person. Instead of just sitting and hearing Mr Wahab cross examining, he actually keeps giving ideas to Mr Wahab and keeps taking down notes. He is definately a good lawyer to work with.

The success behind a lawyer is definately the secretary. Miss Leela is Mr Wahab’s sceretary or aka the sergeant major of the office according to Mr Wahab. She ensures the adminstration and the lawyer’s cases in the office are managed properly. She also ensures discipline in the office. Miss Leela also engages her clients and ensures they are always comfortable in the office.

A law firm is not complete without a strong admin. Ms Pari is in charge of the adminstration in the office. She ensures that the documents are sent to the defendant and replies are done promptly on time.

Miss Alicia was an intern to Mr Wahab’s office. She was helpful to Mr Wahab and Mr Hasif in preparing the necessary affidavits for the case. Im very sure this has been a learning experience for her.
