About

Shaneet Nityanand Rai (洋新立) is Of Counsel at Kalidass Law Corporation, bringing over a decade of experience across dispute resolution, corporate advisory, and strategic investment work. He is admitted to the Singapore Bar and has built a multidisciplinary practice that sits at the intersection of law, capital, and emerging industries.

Shaneet’s practice spans complex commercial and criminal matters, with particular strength in white-collar defence, regulatory investigations, and high-stakes disputes. He regularly advises individuals, corporates, and founders on risk management, investigations, and navigating interactions with enforcement and regulatory authorities. Drawing on both private practice and in-house experience, he combines strong legal analysis with a strategic, commercially attuned approach to dispute resolution. His approach is pragmatic and discreet, with a focus on achieving the best possible outcome, whether in criminal proceedings or civil and commercial disputes.

In parallel, Shaneet has extensive experience in corporate and transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, and cross-border structuring. He has held senior in-house roles in the technology, Web3, and hospitality sectors, where he advised on regional expansion, capital raising, governance, and strategic decision-making. His exposure to private markets and venture ecosystems enables him to provide commercially grounded, solutions-oriented advice to clients navigating complex and high-stakes matters.

Beyond his legal practice, Shaneet serves on the Board of Visitors for the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) Detention Barracks, an independent oversight body appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to inspect detention facilities and safeguard detainee welfare, treatment, and detention conditions. He is also a member of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), where he supports initiatives aimed at promoting crime prevention awareness and fostering a culture of personal and community responsibility in crime prevention.

Shaneet is also actively involved in Singapore’s startup and investment ecosystem as an angel investor and mentor, and has worked with funds and founders across Southeast Asia, India, Greater China, and beyond. He also acts as a fractional General Counsel, providing ongoing, embedded legal support to companies seeking senior legal expertise without the need for a full-time legal hire.

Fluent in Mandarin, Hindi, and Malay, Shaneet brings a regional perspective to his work. He combines legal rigour with commercial acumen, offering clients practical, strategic counsel in increasingly complex and fast-evolving environments.
